This year, more than ever, I have noticed that there seems to be a lot of tree tapping going on in my little town. Even the maples in the cemetery are tapped. If the pails happen to be gone when you come, you will be able to see old drill holes and new plugs in the recently tapped trees. It seems like this is getting to be quite the cottage enterprise.

To find your leaf, enter Middlefield Cemetery either through the entrance between the church and the pre-school or at the “official” Middlefield Cemetery entrance. Find your way to the large sugar maple on a hill towering above the graves. Take a reading of approximately 70* and notice the tallest arborvitae in the cemetery across and up a little hill. Your leaf is hiding in another arborvitae with four fingers shooting up into the air just beyond it.
