Would you like to go for a beautiful hike and get some gorgeous stamps?! You can do both of these things at the same time!! The stamps are all beautifully carved by RTRW, an incredible carver. They are well worth the hike. I do not know how long this hike is, I just know that I enjoy it every time I do it. It is a beautiful place.

This series has only one log book and it is located in the last box. Also, there are no ink pads. I personally used black for all of mine and loved the way that they looked.

Directions:
To start on this wonderful safari you must first find the parking lot for Bailey's Ravine at Ayers Gap. It is located on route 207 in North Franklin (pssst-there are other boxes here that you could do at the same time).

Clues:
You will follow the white blazes for the entire hike. The beginning is a rather steep incline (actually, it is pretty much straight up the rocks). The plus side, you get a real sense of accomplishment when you reach the top!
When you are about a third of the way up the steep hill at the beginning you will see a very big rock on your right. It also has two white blazes on it. Stop here (you will probably welcome a reason to stop at this point). Look to your left and you will see an upright(erect) rock. To the right of this rock in a hollowed out stump you will find box #1 (Wessa).
THIS BOX HAS GONE MISSING. WHILE CHECKING ON THEM ALL I COULD FIND WAS THE CONTAINER AND THE LID SCATTERED ON THE GROUND. PLEASE REMEMBER TO RE-HIDE AS WELL AS, IF NOT BETTER THAN, YOU FOUND A BOX!!!!!!!
Continue traveling UP, following the white blazes. When the path FINALLY levels out (for a VERY short time) stop here. You will notice low ledge to your left. Climb up on top of this ledge and look for the "highest" point. At this high point, under the overhang, you will find box #2 Rhino Shield.
Continue on, your safari has just begun! What's this? We are now traveling downhill, YEAH!!!You will cross over a stone wall and continue on the path. Keep going until you come to another stonewall that has an opening in it for the path to go through. Just after the path is a tree leaning across the path overhead. Before going through this opening walk 4 steps along the wall on the right. You will find box #3 Blue Wilde Beest low in the wall here.
THIS BOX IS SEVERELY CRACKED, BUT I DID NOT HAVE A SUITABLE REPLACEMENT WITH ME AT THE TIME...
Now continue on through the wall. Walk along the white blazed path until you come to another stone wall opening that is directly on the path. Go through this opening and look left. There you will see a corner where two stone walls meet. Look in this corner for box #4 Rhino.
THIS ONE IS DEFINITELY MISSING. PLEASE DO NOT PULL THE WALL APART LOOKING FOR IT!!!!!!!!
Keep going on the white blazed path. Soon you will come to a wonderful little brook that has a great little waterfall at it. Cross this brook carefully and continue on. You will then reach an old road/cart path? Turn right with the white here. As you start heading downhill keep looking on the left for the roots of a felled pine tree. It looks really neat. In the trunk of this pine, in a hollow on top, you will find box #5 Zebra. It is the final box and the one that has the log book.
To return to your car you have two choices.
Choice #1-return the same way that you came.
Choice #2-(probably shorter, but I am not positive) continue on the white trail and it will lead you to Bailey's Ravine. A beautiful spot with a terrific waterfall. This is at the end of the trail and right near the road. If you choose this route, then when you reach the road turn right. Follow it to the stop sign and turn right again. A short way down the road is where you parked your car.

We really hope you enjoyed this hike. It is one of our favorites. Please be sure to stay on the white blazed trail. There are some spots that the blazes are fading and actually look more yellow than white. It is well marked though.

Have fun! Flutterby & Roalie Goalie~
