BLOWING IN THE WIND
Where do all the Pinchot Sycamore Leaves go ?? The answer my friend, is, they blow in the wind. And blow they did !! Such a mighty tree has much to share. History, Size , and Many Many leaves. .
Two leaves holding a seed ball took to the winds . They blew this way and that way until a South Easterly wind lifted them up and tossed them into a small Nature Preserve in South Glastonbury.
Clues :
The Cotton Hollow Roaring Brook Nature Preserve parking lot is found on Route 17 in South Glastonbury. This is a short loop walk. Begin at the sign and walk over a small wooden bridge and onto the white blazed trail. Some of the trees here have identification signs you can read if you choose. Follow the white trail and watch for the left hand trail blazed in yellow. Take this Yellow trail that travels along the fast moving waters of Roaring Brook. There are many different species of trees in this small preserve. Perhaps some might be new to you. Soon , the Yellow Blazed trail begins to turn to the right and away from the water . Here you will pass between two old deep foundations. At the junction with the white trail, turn right in a westerly direction onto the white trail. Count 25 steps and notice a young Sycamore tree growing in the middle of the foundations on your right. Look over to the left just off trail to a large boulder with a flat surface. From that large boulder, walk 7 steps due east to another boulder There hiding in a small ledge behind some stones, you will find the Blowing In The Wind Sycamore Leaves Letterbox.
Please check to make sure it is hidden well behind the loose stones.
Now continue on the white trail westerly and complete the loop back to the parking lot.
Happy trails, Butterfly
