Goat Island Letterbox

**Logbook replaced August 23, 2006; 2 year anniversay of this letterbox!**

Once upon a time, the settlers in Niagara Falls, New York, farmed and raised livestock.
A convenient way for the settlers to allow their animals to graze without wandering off was to shepherd them onto a nearby island.
One night, the animals grazed, the settlers slept, and a fierce storm raged down upon them all from the Great Lakes.
The sheep baaed, the cows mooed, the horses neighed in terror. The chickens tried in vain to take flight. The settlers huddled together in their tiny log homes, praying.
Morning dawned bright and clear, the storm having blown completely away.
The settlers went out of their homes to survey the damage.
Their fields were littered with fallen branches, leaves, and debris.
Their wagons and carts were overturned.
They went to the island to check on their livestock, but could not find any animals.
The wind had blown them all into the river, over the falls, and away.
All, that is, but one.
One lone goat, for whom the island is now named.

Once on Goat Island, drive past the large parking lot and go on until you find angled parking places, free of charge, with 20-minute parking signs.

From the east end of the handicapped parking places cross the street, heading toward the river.

Stand at the lone, licheny rock in the grassy area between the two paved paths.
From the rock take a compass reading of 145 degrees.

At the left (east) end of the retaining wall is a multi-trunked tree.

Need we remind you to be careful?? No letterboxers over the falls, please!!

There are picnic tables back by the parking place, which you can see from the letterbox. Stamp in, then go enjoy Three Sisters Islands before your twenty minutes run out, since the bridge is right nearby.

Oh, and take along the clues to the 3 Sisters Island letterbox!
