Mt. Albion Cemetery, one of the most outstanding cemeteries in the US, is known as a garden type cemetery. For many years, families brought lunches etc. with them and spent time sharing a picnic and wandering among the numerous trees and enjoying the unusual foliage and beautiful flower displays.
Find the main entrance on Rt 31, drive in, and pause to read the map. Locate the Sanford Church monument on the map.
Driving through the cemetery, turn left onto Valley. Bear right at the Y and park.
Find the hitching post at the Sanford Church Monument.
Follow the grassy path uphill past Swan, Proctor, and Roberts.
Pass Inez on the left.
Keeping the Burrows obelisks on the right, go up the switchback path on the left. Bear right at the fork, away from Bingham.
Go up the path and curve right around Loss.
Pass Bidelman to Hallenbake then go left up the root stairs.
Climb the steps to the monument "In memory of the men who fell in defense of the Union".
Find Ireland and O'Conner. Take a moment to remember those who have been long forgotten. If you have time and courage you will want to climb to the top of the tower. On a clear day you can see for miles!
As you exit the tower find the black top downhill path to the left. At the bottom of the hill you will find four tall pines. Stand at the bench which notes the original position of Potter's Field. Face south to find a picnic area surrounded by a stone border. Under a large flat stone at the southern edge of the border you will find what you seek.
