This series was pulled on 4/21/07 due to boxes disapearing a number of times. I hope to replant them somewhere else in the future. Thanks to the many people who let me know when boxes were missing so that I could replace them.
Clues:
This series is based on the childrens CD No! by They Might Be Giants. This is a cd that our son loves and so do we. If you have children, or if you just love fun music, I highly recommend this disc.
Time: 30 to 45 minutes, we tried to make them family friendly which is why you only have to sign the log book at the last box.
Directions:
MILL WOODS PARK
Wethersfield, PROSPECT STREET
TRAVELING SOUTH ON I-91:
Take Exit 28 to Route 5 and 15 (Berlin Turnpike Wethersfield - Newington). Take Exit 85 (Route 99 South Wethersfield - Rocky Hill).
At 2nd traffic light (Nott Street) take a right. Go straight to 1st stop sign and take a left onto Wolcott Hill Road. Follow road all the way to end to Prospect Street until you come to a stop light. Mill Woods Park is across the intersection. Take a quick left and then a right into the park.
TRAVELING NORTH ON I-91:
Take Exit 24 (Route 99 - Silas Deane Highway).
Continue north on Silas Deane Highway to Maple Street. Bear right on exit ramp to Silas Deane Highway north into Wethersfield (Route 3).
Take a left onto Maple Street and then right onto Prospect Street at traffic light. Continue on Prospect to the 1st stop light.
Mill Woods Park is on the left.
Once you enter the park go past the tennis courts and park in the lot next to the playground.
Clues revised 4/12/06:
The last box is the only one with a stamp pad and log book. All the others only have a stamp in it.
If you are looking at the playground with the pond on your right you should be able to see a path through the woods in the back left corner of the field on the left. Go to the path and head into the woods 27 steps. You will soon see a fallen log, about 12ft. long, half buried in the ground on the right. Go to the far end of the log where the piece of cement is (if there is any left) head east 35 steps to the graffiti tree. Look in the south east side of the tree in the roots for the John Lee Supertaster Letterbox.
Just to the north is another large tree look on the north side where a baby tree is growing to find the No! letterbox.
After replacing the box head back to the trail and continue the way you were headed. You will soon see two fallen logs 14 steps into the woods on the right side of the trail. Look in the west end of the log on the right to find the House in the Top of the Tree letterbox.
When you put House in the Top of the Tree back look to the right for the tree with the carved initials B.E. & D.P. Look at the base of the tree on the west side for Robots on Parade.
Continue on the trail in the same direction, at the fork bear left. Stop in front of the tree with Liz & Joe carved in it on the right, if you pass the tree with hearts on it you've gone a few steps to far. Take a reading of twenty degrees for the 2 sister tree. Look on the north side of the tree to find the Fibber Island letterbox.
Continue on the path and at the fork in the trail bear left. When you see the base of a large uprooted tree look left to a tree split in 3 about 10 feet up and 10 steps off the trail. Look on the North West side for the In the Middle, In the Middle, In the Middle letterbox.
Go back to the trail and head back toward your car. At the fork take a right, at the next fork take a right. Continue to the cement stone/log that you started at and take a reading of 280 degrees and walk about 25-30 feet to a fallen tree. About 5 feet in from the east end find the I Am Not Your Broom letterbox. After stamping in rehide the box and head back to your car or the playground like we did.
Please rehide these boxes well. We had to replace two of them and I’m hoping that the series can stay in the park.
We hope you enjoy this series. Please feel free to email and let us know if there are any problems with the boxes.
