Level of difficulty: easy
Kid friendly: absolutely
Wheelchair friendly: not this one... sorry.
Estimated Time of Hunt (ETH)... 1/2 hour.
Your hunt begins at a roadside pull-out about 3-tenths of a mile north of Tumalo State Parkon O.B. Riley Road. There's no overnight camping at this spot (hint, hint)...
To the box: A stroll past "J.D.C." will lead you to a bank along the Deschutes River. Head in the direction from whence the ripples flowed following a well-defined course of sand. A mammoth that inspired the "Bonanza" ranch's name appears on your right. Just ahead, a yawning pink hippo hardly notices your presence. Beyond him, another mammoth sentry clings to it's rocky beginnings the same color as the hippo. 31 mommy-paces farther down the course will bring you to a subtle west-bound path. Jaunt up to the base of the solid wall beyond. Go left or right to the top of the stone wall to a spot behind a juniper that rises from the base of the wall. Face back from whence you came to see both the hippo and mammonth sentry you previously passed. There at your feet, guarded by rock is this elusive toadstool.
