This letterbox is placed in beautiful and historic Dean Castle Country Park, Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, Scotland. Kilmarnock is about 20 miles south west of Glasgow. The park is located in the northeast part of the town, on Dean Road, between Glasgow Road (B7038) and Kilmarnock By-Pass (A77). Park in the car park just after you turn into the park. It will help you to have a map of the park which you may obtain at the visitor centre.
Walk up the short paved path to the visitor centre and castle. Turn right on the paved road to the castle. Continue on the road behind (to the right of) the castle. Just past the castle, turn right off the road and cross the stone bridge. Make immediate right onto Two Rivers Trail. Turn left past first fenced area at fork in trail. The trail goes through sheep paddocks. Turn left at T-junction. Continue to 5-post wood fence on right side of trail. After passing end of fence, continue on trail for about 12 steps. Look back left and uphill and you will see a narrow wildcat (unofficial user or social) trail going up the steep slope. Walk up that trail and at the top you will see on the right a large beech tree next to a fence. The box is under the fence-side of the tree under some rocks covered by chunks of bark covered by some twigs and plant debris.
Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks and pieces of bark and cover with plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
You may return the way you came, or, you may continue on the trail a short distance, turn left on Assloss Road, then left onto trail along the river, back to the stone bridge and right across the river to the castle.
I will not be able to check on this box; so, please let me know if you find it or if it needs attention or is missing:
