Walking time: about 1/2 hour one way
Stamp hand-carved
Version 2.0: new stamp with new theme
Status: alive and well on January 31, 2016

I adopted this letterbox on December 24, 2010. At that time the box was missing. On January 27, 2011, I replaced it with a new box, stamp, and log book, at a slightly different location

Milagrosa Canyon is a great place to hike hidden away in northeast Tucson.

Drive north on Catalina Hwy. (this is the road that goes to Mt. Lemmon). Turn right on Snyder Rd. Then turn left on Suzenu. Park your car at the cul-de-sac at the end of Suzenu. Vehicles are not allowed on Horsehead Rd., but you will see it is okay to park here.

Enter through the gate on to Horsehead Rd. heading east (it is OK to walk on this private association road). Walk straight down Horsehead until it ends at a row of boulders lining the right side of the curve and at an old closed gate (do not take either of the two left turns at the end). Go through the opening on the right side of the gate. Walk up and over the hill; do not take the left fork going up the canyon wall. Walk across the wash, passing over an old concrete slab in the wash, and continue until you reach another gate stating "Invited Guests Only". Left of the gate you will see a well-used trail; go up the trail through the metal poles. Walk up the trail for about one minute to where you will find a huge blocky boulder (taller than you) on the right side of the trail. From the boulder walk about 25 steps up the trail to a rock in the middle of the trail. Continue up the trail for about 9 more steps. Turn to your left and go at about 344 degrees (from mag. north) for about 28 steps to a medium size angular boulder low on the ground. The box is on the west side of the boulder under a flat rock covered with some plant debris. Es la Cometa de Milagrosa! ["Cometa" is the Spanish word for "comet"]. Be alert for snakes!

Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the flat rock and cover with plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

Please let me know if the box needs attention or is missing:
