Now playing in their 27th season in San Antonio, the franchise's history actually dates back to May of 1967, when the Dallas Chaparrals were born. Due to poor playing performance and the lack of fan support, the Dallas Chaparrals' swan song came on March 26, 1973. Playing one last time at the Dallas Convention Center.
The franchise was rescued from oblivion by a group of San Antonio businessmen led by John Schaefer, B. J. "Red" McCombs, Art Burdick, and Angelo Drossos. The group moved the club to San Antonio and rechristened it the Spurs. The franchise played its first game in San Antonio on October 10, 1973, before 5,879 fans at the HemisFair Arena. After 14 years with the Spurs, David Robinson will retire at the end of the season. (2006)

Brackenridge Park is a focal point for outdoor family activities. The picturesque San Antonio River, which originates from artesian springs north of the park, meanders by paved, tree-lined paths suitable for bicycling and walking. Additional recreational opportunities include picnicking, pedal boating, fishing, birding and nature study. Facilities include athletic fields, playground, concessions and a 3.5-mile miniature railway.
To the Box:
1. Park in “San Antonio Zoo” parking lot by train depot. Walk behind train depot to two bridges that are shaped like castle walls.
2. Cross the two bridges and continue up the hill following the sidewalk. Turn right and walk across crosswalk and continue on sidewalk to Susan Budge’s monument and two large boulders.
3. The first boulder will be on your right. Turn left with boulder behind you, facing the crosswalk. Walk across the crosswalk and follow path until it comes to a “T”. There will be a concrete “tree” on your left.
4. Turn right and walk 120 steps to a oak tree on your right with a “Y” about 7 FT. up that bends to the left.
5. Continue 94 steps to two trees that are close together near the trail on your left.
6. Turn left off the trail and follow the faint trail to a “T” and turn left. On your left, there is a large tree with an “elbow”.
7. Directly behind this tree about 11 steps is a multi-trunk tree. Box is in the middle of this tree, with lots of moss and debris.
Please re-hide and re-place all the moss and debris. Thanks!
