Revised clues added 05/25/2006.

I have been getting a lot of notices of failed attempts on this box lately. I believe this is because of some recent changes in the park landscape that have made the original directions more difficult to follow. I have revised the clues a little, which I hope will make them clearer. Please note that the area where the box is hidden can get quite swampy at times, so you probably shouldn't wear your best shoes.

Lake Lansing Park (South) was once a small amusement park, which began sometime before 1916 and closed in 1974. We have placed this letterbox in memory of the park’s former life. The Lake Lansing Park roller coaster, known as Giant Coaster, stood approximately where the parking lot is now. See the Ingham County Parks Department web site for maps and information.

Enter the park over the bridge at the south end of the parking lot. Straight ahead you will see the sole remnant of the old amusement park – the empty shell of a missing ride. On it you will find a few sentences in memory of old Lake Lansing Park. Follow around the edge of this structure to the opposite side. Now the memories have faded away. From this forgotten history, proceed east to a concrete path. Follow this path north almost until the end of the line. On your left you will see the gnarled ex-king of Lake Lansing Park. Although he has lost his crown, he still watches over his former domain. From the old king, proceed 60 paces at a bearing of 320 degrees, passing a couple of the old king's subjects. This will take you to a large, twin-trunked tree. From this tree, proceed 15 paces at a bearing of 22 degrees. The remains of the coaster? No, this jumble of wood has a more natural origin. However, hidden within it you will find our tribute.
