Trail difficulty: easy.
Walking time: about 5 minutes one way
Stamp hand-carved
Version 2.0: this is the second location for this box.
Status: Alive and well on October 2021
On U. S. Highway 60 a few miles east of Wickenburg by Mile Marker 116 is an ADOT Rest Area on the south side of the highway. Drive in there and park.
Walk to the gate at the southeast end of the parking area and go through or under it (it is usually locked). Continue walking southeast on the dirt road which soon becomes paved. Walk to the gate at the end and turn around. From the center of the edge of the cattle guard, go at about 224 degrees (from mag. north) for about 30 steps to a large old multi-trunked willow-like tree with spreading arms. Be careful of the barbed wire up against this tree. The small box is in the hollow on the top of the horizontal part of the large branch extending out to the right and left of a green and white fence post. It is behind a small rock covered with small chunks of bark and twigs. Be very alert for snakes -- they have been seen near the box site!
<B>Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag). <U>Please rehide the box well under the rock and covered with the bark and twigs so that it can not be seen from any direction__**.
The Rest Area is in a scenic riparian area along the Hassayampa River and a nice place for a picnic. There are interesting interpretive signs for the natural history of the area.
I will not be able to check on this box very often, so please let me know if you find it and/or if it needs attention or is missing:
