Trail difficulty: easy; however, there is no trail and you walk on flat sandy and rocky desert
Walking distance: short
Stamp hand-carved
Status: alive and well on March 21, 2016
This box is placed along Imperial Highway in Imperial County! From I-8 in Ocotillo, take exit 89 and drive northwest on Imperial Highway (county highway S-2). Drive for about 7 miles to a dirt road turnoff on the right and park there. There are two signs there next to each other; one is a brown stake and has the numbers 093 and 096 on it, and the other says “Limited Use Area”. If you are driving southeast from Anza-Borrego Desert SP, after crossing the county line and state park boundary, continue for about 1.1 miles to the dirt road on the left.
From the “093 and 096 stake”, walk at about 66 degrees (from mag. north) for about 76 steps to a large Ocotillo Plant. From behind that plant, go at about 74 degrees for about 46 steps to another large Ocotillo. Continue for about 5 more steps to a large black boulder on the edge of a small drainage wash. The box is on the west side of this boulder under a flat black rock. Be very alert for snakes.
Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag) and put it all INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rock so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it is missing or needs attention:
