Inman pond is a little jewel in the southern Adirondacks. It is beautiful, with a couple of gorgeous vistas and it is very quiet and peaceful place. One of the nice things about it is that the hike in is very easy, with only a 400’ elevation gain and is only about 1 mile in length. After you find the letterbox, please explore the pond you will not be disappointed.

From the intersection of NYS Route 149 and Buttermilk Falls Rd, turn onto Buttermilk Falls Rd and drive about 6.3 mills, until you see an area of the road that is widened for a turn around. You will have pasted the DEC trial sign for Inman Pond on the left; park at the turn around and head to the trailhead. If you go too far you will come to Camp Little Notch (CLN). Start your hike at the DEC sign that had Inman Pond on it. A little down the path you will come to a DEC trailhead sign in. Make sure you take a moment and sign in. Continue up the path until you reach a trail intersection at a wooded trail bridge. At this point you will see a wooden sign pointing to the north that says, Inman Pond 0.6 Miles. Follow that trail (red markers), a little up hill then it levels off, until you get to the pond. On the way you will pass a trail that turns hard to the right and downhill, but don’t take that. Just continue on the trail until you reach the south end of the pond (actually a floating bog) at a trail intersection where each trail leads along each side of the pond. As you approach the intersection you will see a yellow no camping sign. At the intersection, right at the point you will see a rock that is 3’x2. 5’. You would trip over it is you continued in a straight line from the direction that you just traveled. From that rock, take the left trail at bearing of approx. 304d and go 17 paces (1 pace=2 steps) along the trail, until you come to a birch tree growing over a rock. There is a smaller hemlock right in back of it, and a larger one to the left that has a red trail maker on it. From the birch, on a bearing of 328d go 9 paces until you come to a 3’x3’ boulder. On the W side of this boulder you will find your prize under the rock pile. Please log in.

One thing please take the time to lock the letterbox’s top tight. These containers are great, but some Boxers have not been snapping them down all the way. Thank you I really appreciate it!

If you were to continue on the trail that you are on, following the red markers, you will be lead to an old campsite right on the pond’s shore. Continue following a small-unmarked footpath along the shore until you reach the northerly end of the pond and scramble up a path that takes you up the side of a rock outcrop. The view from the top of the out crop is worth the climb.
