7/15/08 This Box is Missing again. I have to decide if I want to replace it or not. Flotilla
This is an easy one to find and should take no more than 30 to 45 minutes. Go to Island Lake State Park in Brighton, Michigan. From the park enterance go towards the trailhead.
At the Huron River there is plenty of perch,
but the treasure you seek is not within reach.
The meadow is a great spot to picnic, but not if you're treasure hungry!
Around the Riverbend, under the bridge, past the pond, the treasure you seek lies beyond!
Follow the road past Placeway landing,
on the left is a cabin still standing.
Organizations only can camp on this ground
over the tracks is a split in the road.
Seek shelter from a storm,
I'm named for a bell that has come to harm!
Park next to the restrooms where you'll see a sign
then answer these questions - you'll need them in time!
In 1898 there were how many regiments? _____
Their numbers were _____st, _____nd, _____rd, _____th, and
_____th.
How many saw action in Cuba? _____
Which ones? _____ & _____
How many served? _______ How many died? _______
How many volunteered for each one accepted? ______
Who remained home? _____ & _____
Who occupied Cuba? _____
Straight past the sign is a cement staircase descending toward the lake. Go down _____ steps (# of regiments X # of volunteers) to a landing. Another ten steps either left or right and you'll get a soaker! Look Right. Wouldn't it be fun to climb out on? Great photo op eh? Go back up to the landing where the sidewalk heads left and right. If the sum of the regiments who stayed home is an odd number go to B if it is an even number go to A.
A. Take the path at 230 degrees past a big hollow stump on your left. Down 6, up 7, rest, up 8, rest, up 5 rest, on your right is a large maple that is hollow. Look 2 ft up on the southwest side for your prize.
B. Follow the path at 50 degrees. Down 2, round tree, down 3. On the left are more stairs, just past is a path leading to the climbing spot. Be careful going down the hill, it is much easier coming back up! Stand before the end of the tree and look _____ degrees (# served - 6495) for a cement drain. Under a pile of Bark & logs behind the drain is your prize. OOOPS! that was the old hiding spot before the Box floated away in the lake. Back up the hill and continue following the cement path till it ends. Go straight on the dirt path 50 paces til you come to a clearing with 2 railroad ties and a big tree. 16 more paces from that tree to an intersection. Go downhill to an old tree fort. Under the bark at the base of the fort you'll find the real prize. Rehide me carefully so I stay dry this time!
Remember to rehide me well, this place is busy!
