This is one of six boxes in the "You don't know Jack" series. The series remembers the notorious "Jack the Ripper" and the Whitechapel murders of the late 1880's. The identity of"The Ripper" has never been proven.
Planted and carved by "Koyote" of "The End Gang".
The Rust sanctuary is a wonderful place to explore with kids. Programs are offered for young and old.
DIRECTIONS:In Leesburg, take the Rt.7/15 bypass. Follow the bypass around to the southwest corner of Leesburg, take the exit marked Business 7. At the top of the exit make a right onto Business 7 East, then turn right at the first light on to Catoctin Circle. Follow Catoctin Circle until you reach the first right turn lane, this will be Children's Center Rd. Follow this road until it apparently dead-ends in a cul-de-sac. Here you will see the sanctuary's mailbox and sign, follow the adjacent gravel/paved road back 1/4 mile to the santuary entrance, a stone gate. Proceed through the gate and park in the lot.
NOTE: The trail is not blazed, but instead just well worn or marked with branches as if outlining the trail. The boy scouts work on the trail from time to time. Watch your trail!
CLUES: From the lot proceed to the welcome center( a small shack to the left of the manor's front door)and pick up a trail map and information pamphlet. Proceed to the amphitheater by walking down pond road (the trail immediately to the left of the welcome centershack). The amphitheater is to the right just before you come to the pond. Count the number of benches in the amphitheater and subtract one. Remember this number. Now, across the path from the amphitheater is a wooden bridge which starts another trail. This trail has numbered posts along the way. Proceed to the post with the number you got from the amphiteater. When you reach this post, there is an old fallen tree approx. six steps behind you and to the right. The box lays behind this fallen tree near it's base.
I hope you enjoyed finding this new place and had fun with the letterbox. Please let me know how you liked the box and if it needs any maintainence. Safe trails!
