Kentucky Down Under is an interactive Australian animal park. Visitors can get up close and personal with kangaroos and wallabies, watch a sheep herding demonstration, learn about Aboriginal culture, hand feed lorikeets, interact with reptiles and much more. Kentucky Caverns is open year around and is a beautiful cave. This is a true treasure located immediatly at exit 58 (Horse Cave) on Interstate 65. There is a cost for admission and you should bring an ink pad for the box. Visit www.kdu.com for more information.
The map you will receive upon admission will show you the nature trail path. This is where the box is hidden. At the top of the big hill, take a right and follow the path into the woods towards the nature trail. (Or after your cave tour, take a left towards the nature trail). You'll see a bench on the right. On the left look for the wooden nature trail sign. Follow the trail to the top of the steps. Take the trail to the left. Keep walking between 2 trees with a big rock in the middle. Soon you will see a natural rock wall on your right. Turn to go up to the gravel path. At the top of the hill is a water tower. The path veers to the right past a "v" tree. Follow the path with the tree in the middle of the road. The road becomes limestone rock again like it was in the beginning. Pass a tree on the left that asks a faded question. You will see a low wood "fence" on your left. Count the planks. Between 6 and 7, look straight ahead about 20 paces in the woods for a "v" shaped tree. At about 11 paces, you'll have to step over a fallen log. Keep counting paces to 20 and you'll get to the tree. Look behind the tree under a big rock to find your box.
The path will put you out by the North American Exhibit and an overlook. You have been walking over the cave the whole trail, so be sure to take a cave tour.
