Trail difficulty: easy, a flat path

The answers to the questions in the clues for this webbox are located in Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area in northeast Washington. Letterboxes are not allowed to be physically placed in national parks, national monuments, national recreation areas and other sites administered by the U. S. National Park Service. So, I have created this webbox. You must actually visit the area of the clues; however, you need to go to the Web to obtain your finders stamp.

Enter the Fort Spokane section of Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area which is on the east side of the Columbia River just off of State Highway 25. Park in the lot near the Fort Spokane Visitor Center.

Start walking towards the visitor center and look for two interpretive signs mounted on a red brick base. The left sign is titled “Fort Spokane History”. In the first paragraph (starts with the words ”Fort Spokane was…”), in the 1st line, what is the 7th word?

Now, start walking northwest across the field and look for an interpretive sign titled “Commanding Officers Quarters” also on a red brick base. In the paragraph on the left (starts with the words “Soon after…”), in the 2nd line, what is the 6th line?

To create the mystery word, put the word from the second question on the end of the word from the first question (without spaces). Paste the mystery word (all letters lower case) into this URL (replacing the question marks “???” with the mystery word):

http://nostalgia.esmartkid.com/???.html

Now, plug/paste/type the new URL into your web browser and you will have completed your search for the Lake Roosevelt Recreation Area Webbox.

Please record your find at www.letterboxing.org/ .
