This Letterbox is a hybrid in conjunction with the Geocache of the same name.
The Letterbox is located Dalworthington Gardens (DWG), a small city within a city. DWG, with a population of around 2500, is completely bordered by Arlington and yet has it’s own police and fire department. More can be learned about DWG by going to Link.
The Letterbox is located in DWG’s A.H. “Pappy” Elkins Park. From I-20, take the Bowen Road exit and go north 1.7 miles to California Lane. Go West on California to Roosevelt Drive and then north to Elkins Drive. (Police department is on the corner.)
Take Elkins Drive west and then north to the trailhead of DWG Wildlife Nature Trail.
Proceed, on foot, following the trail NNE along the lakeshore. After crossing a bridge, bear to the west. At Birdhouse #5, approximately 140 feet, the trail splits. Stay to the left and go another 340 feet where the trail takes a sharpe turn to the south and then another one back to the west. The trail will pass between two groups of willow trees. From the willow trees, go another 25 feet and you should note a clearing in the brush to the south.
The container, an ammo box, is located about 50 feet south of the trail. It is about 10 feet west of a large tree with a broken limb. You will have to climb over four broken concrete slabs. Look in the crevice between two slabs resting on a fallen tree trunk.
