My first “Moabi 66 Letterbox” was reported missing. However, when I checked on it, I found it still in its original location and in excellent condition. I had already made a new stamp and box to replace it; so, I decided to place the new box in another location. There are now two letterboxes in the Moabi Park area for your enjoyment!

Moabi Regional Park is near the California-Arizona border. From I-40 take the Park Moabi Road exit which is the first exit west of the state line (exit 153). Drive north on the road to Moabi Park and turn left (west) on National Trails Hwy. National Trails Hwy. is historic U. S. Highway 66. Drive to the end of the paved road where there is a barrier made of large blocks of concrete.

Look for the most southerly very large block of concrete. It has a steel rod sticking out of it and it rests right on the old yellow highway center stripe. From that block, walk at about 120 degrees (from mag. north) for about 47 steps to a half dead moderate size Tamarisk (or Salt Cedar) Tree. The box is under the southeast side of the dead part of this tree under a large flat rock and plant debris. Be very alert for snakes, scorpions and other desert critters!

Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box very well under the rock and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.

I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:

Now go look for my “Moabi 66 Letterbox”.

This box is in my “Historic Route 66 Series”. The other boxes in the series are: “Don’t Forget Winona 66 [AZ]”, “Hackberry 66 [AZ]”, “Historic Route 66 [AZ]”, “Moabi 66 [CA]”, “Navajo 66 [AZ]”, “Sayre 66 [OK]”, and “Topock 66 [AZ]”.
