Mohawk is an abandoned site just off of I-8. It was a one-business “community” providing services to travelers on old U. S. Highway 80. From westbound I-8, take Exit 54 and turn left on road to Mohawk Valley. Go about 0.3 mile and turn right on road to Mohawk Valley (Old US 80). Or, from eastbound I-8, take Exit 54, go northwest back under I-8 and turn left on road to Mohawk Valley (Old US 80). Drive about 0.8 mile, turn left onto a dirt road and go for a short distance to some old concrete building foundations. This is the site of Mohawk.

Look for a tall wood post. It is sticking out of a long strip of concrete (which probably once had gas pumps on it) in front of a pit that was once a cellar. From this wood post, walk at about 70 degrees (from mag. north) for about 100 steps up slope to a moderate size protruding rock outcrop. There is a small Creosote bush on its southwest side. The box is up against the south end of the outcrop under some rocks. Be alert for snakes.

Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the rocks so that it can not be seen from any direction.

I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it is missing or needs attention:

Here is a scan of an old real-photo postcard showing what Mohawk looked like probably about 70 years ago:
