As you approach Mt. Katahdin, you will summit a peak named after a Penobscot Indian Thunder God. You want to take the trail named after a legendary superintendent to get there, it is the most scenic. At the top, take a rest, take in the breathtaking views, and when you are ready, head directly towards the sun for the letterbox.
The rest of the hike to Baxter Peak is a very slow-going journey, but thrilling and breathtaking. If you are looking for a true adventure, I highly recommend this circuit. When you descend, do not take Cathedral, it's very dangerous--take Saddle. Enjoy the hike and get out there before winter arrives! It's well worth the time and energy.
