Walk difficulty: easy
Walking distance: about 0.1 mile one way
Stamp hand-carved
Status: alive and well on October 5, 2014
From U. S. Highway 136, turn south into the town of Republican City (there is a green “Harlan County Reservoir” sign at this intersection). This is Berrigan Road. Continue south on it (the name will change to Corps Rd. A) to the dam. Just before the dam, turn left on the road to North Outlet Park. At the end, turn left on a poorly paved road which soon turns to dirt. Follow it all the way to the end at a circular parking area.
Walk on the “Rivers Edge Nature Trail”. Look for the small red metal “Black Walnut” identification sign. From this sign, go at about 345 degrees (from mag. north) for about 24 steps to a tall dead forked tree (it has been reported to me that part of the fork has broken off). The box is behind it between the tree and a small log. It is covered with bark which is covered with a rock which is covered with some plant debris. I tried to hide the box where there was no Poison Ivy. However, there is plenty of it in the area. So be very careful. Also, be alert for snakes.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well under the bark and rock and cover with plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
