Walk difficulty: fairly easy – a dirt and sand trail with a few ups and downs
Walking time: about 10 to 15 minutes walk one-way
Stamp hand-carved
Status: alive and well on December 29, 2016
Between Gardiner and Dunes City on U. S. Highway 101 at near Milemarker 202, turn west into the parking area for the Tahkenitch Creek Trailhead. A $5 daily fee or federal recreation pass is required.
Walk west on the main trail from the parking lot. Cross the wooden bridge. At fork bear left, uphill. At the wooden trail map go left and enter into forested area. Continue into the forest. In a short while you will see a multi-trunked pine tree that appears to be in the trail. At that tree the trail turns left and you are facing a larger, multi-trunked 'octopus' tree up a slight slope on the left side of the trail. Walk up the right side of the tree and reach between the 2 bushes on the high side behind the tree for the box. If you reach another wooden trail map you have gone too far.
Please please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag), and put all of it INSIDE the box. Please rehide the box well covered with some twigs and other plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
I will not be able to check on this box; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it needs attention or is missing:
