This box is in the Pole Knoll Recreation Area in the Apache National Forest. The box is at an elevation of about 9000 feet; so, there will be snow on it at least a part of the year. From Show Low and Pinetop-Lakeside drive southeast and east on State Highway 260. At milepost 383 turn right into the Pole Knoll Recreation Area. There is a brown sign at the intersection identifying it. Drive to the end of the paved road and park. There are restrooms and picnic tables available here.
From the information kiosk walk south a short distance to the Pole Knoll Loop sign and turn right onto the trail. Turn left onto the Red Tail Trail. Turn left onto the Osprey Trail. Go to the second blue diamond trail blaze sign on a tree on the right side of the trail. From the west side of this tree, go at about 290 degrees (from mag. north) for about 65 steps to a medium size Pine Tree. From that Tree continue in the same direction for 17 more steps to a moderate size boulder on a very slight rise with some smaller rocks on its right side. The box is under a flat rock amongst the smaller rocks with some plant debris on it.
Please be sure the contents are triple ziplocked when you put them back in the box (ie. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in another ziploc bag, and that ziploc is in a larger ziploc bag). Please rehide the box well under the flat rock and covered with some plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction.
You can return the way you came. Or, you can make a loop trip of it by continuing on down the Osprey Trail, turn left on the Raven Trail, turn left on the Pole Knoll Loop Trail and return to the parking area.
I will not be able to check on this box very often; so, please let me know if you find it, or if it is missing or needs attention:
