Difficulty: Clues and walk easy
Walking time: about 4 minutes one way
Stamp hand-carved
Status: alive and well
This box is in Rincon Valley which is between Vail and Tucson. From I-10 take exit #279 and drive northeast/east on Vail Road/Colossal Cave Road. Turn left (north) on Camino Loma Alta. Or, from within Tucson, drive southeast on Old Spanish Trail and turn left (north) on Camino Loma Alta. Drive north on Camino Loma Alta to the end of the pavement. Continue north on the dirt road for a short distance to where the road narrows at a
red diamond-shaped sign. Park there.
From the two red signs, walk north on the dirt road for about 147 steps. Look to your right (east). There is a large prominent boulder almost next to the fence and about 15 steps from the road. There is a moderate size Palo Verde Tree on the left side of the boulder. The box is on the north side of the boulder nestled between the boulder and a smaller Palo Verde Tree. It is hidden under a pile of rocks and plant debris. Be alert for snakes and scorpions.
<B>Please be sure the contents are double ziplocked when you put them back in the box (i.e. the stamp is in a ziploc, the book is in a ziploc, and the two are in the larger ziploc bag). and put all of it INSIDE the box. <U>Please rehide the box well under the rocks and plant debris so that it can not be seen from any direction__**.
This area is the home of the largest Jackrabbits I have ever seen! Watch for them.
At the end of the road is the trailhead for the Hope Camp Trail. The hike is about six miles round trip and goes through spectacular Sonoran Desert scenery.
