8/12/07 - This Box has been replaced! This was my first hand carved stamp. I had originally carved it twice since I didn't like the first try. So, I had an "extra" stamp on hand when this box came up missing. It has been rehidden more carefully.
Trout Lake is by far the best swimming hole in Island Lake State Park, there is an entry fee (daily or annual.) This is an easy hike of about 2 miles round trip. To find this beauty start where they rent canoes. Back up the drive you came in & cross the road to a forbidding gate (shooting & parking) Keep your pets on a 6 ft leash. Follow the path southwest away from the paved path. Down into the valley, you'll go up & down a few hills, down a shady path and curving through the woods always heading in a southwesternly direction. At the 3rd pet sign go 150 degrees. Enjoy your first look at the Emerald waters before you! Travel clockwise around the lake to the east shore. When you have almost lost sight of the lake because of the trees & bushes, keep going. Once you can see the lake again, look for the 2nd clump of bushes & trees near the waters edge. Under the living stump of a red alder, you'll see a dead tree limb & some rocks look here to find the box. This is a very popular spot especially in the summer, so please rehide me well and make sure no one is looking!
