*****I returned to the Starfire box to find it defiled. The stamp and book were found outside of the box (book is ruined) and the box was nearby, opened. I will attempt to re-hide as soon as possible in a new location. Thanks to the few who found it and stamped it.*****

The Starfire box resides just off of the Cape Cod Rail Trail (CCRT), in Eastham, Massachusetts (Cape Cod). The CCRT runs along a former railroad right-of-way. It runs North/East through the towns of Dennis, Harwich, Brewster, Orleans, Eastham, and Wellfleet (in that order). If you’re traveling by bicycle (or foot, roller blades, etc…), start anywhere along the trail South/West of Eastham (towards Dennis).

As you travel on the CCRT in a North/East direction, as if you were traveling from Dennis towards Eastham, you will see yellow poles standing as markers at each point the CCRT crosses a road. The road names are written on each pole. With this in mind, ride into Eastham until you see the GOVERNOR. The BRIDGE will be the next crossing. After seeing the BRIDGE, ride until you see a dirty, unnamed road crossing the trail. Once again there will be yellow guards, but they will not have a name. There will also be a large boulder on you’re left, beside the trail. Turn left here onto the dirty road then immediately right, and continue to ride (walking would probably be better at this point) under the wires. Walk along this road until you’re feet get wet and take in the view. Turn back the way you came. Walk back approximately 31 normal steps and you will see a faint trail on you’re right among/under the short trees here. As you walk along this short trail, you will see 2 small tree clusters. Walk between them towards a 3rd. Stand in front of this 3rd tree cluster and site a Cedar tree off to you’re left. There will be a vine wrapping around it. In direct line with this vine wrapped Cedar, you will see another cluster of small trees approximately 15 steps beyond. Behind this last cluster you will find the Starfire letterbox under some dead leaves, a rock and an ‘S’ shaped stick. Please close the box tightly and cover it back up when you leave.

The area is somewhat secluded, but please do not let anyone see you. If there is anyone around, come back another time. Be prepared to walk among/under trees and brush. Dress appropriately.

We chose “Starfire” as the name for our box to remember a particular night our family spent on Marconi Beach. We obtained a fire permit from the Salt Pond Visitor’s center, and then spent the evening beside a cozy beach fire, under the stars, listening to the waves crash. We highly recommend you try this if you haven’t already. We couldn’t hide the box there since it is a National Park, so we chose another nearby spot that is also a must see. Hope you enjoy.

DO NOT MAKE ANY FIRES AT THIS LOCATION!!!!
You MUST obtain a fire permit from the National Parks Services, and you can only make a fire on the National Seashore beaches.
