***12/6/06 I went out today and confirmed that all 10 boxes are indeed in place and did some maintenance. There are also some changes that have been done to the clues to reflect changing landmarks.

THERE ARE NO LONGER ANY INK PADS IN THESE BOXES. YOU WILL NEED TO BRING YOUR OWN OR MARKERS.

***11/19/06 I HAVE HAD A REPORT THAT SOME OF THESE BOXES NEED MAINTENANCE. I WILL POST AGAIN WHEN THEY HAVE ALL BEEN CHECKED.***

Directions:
From the intersection of routes 6 & 198 in Chaplin travel down route 198 about 4.5 miles to Morey Road on the right. Go down Morey Road 5 tenths of a mile over a bridge and on to where the blue blazed trail crosses the road. This is very hard to see and it will help to have an extra set of eyes looking. There is room here to pull off of the road and park.

Inspiration:
I recently had the opportunity to search for another box that was placed here some time ago. It was placed by Chuck & Molly and titled Fairy of the Falls. I highly recommend that you search for it also. I want to thank them for placing this box in such a magical place. I just fell in love with the area when I was here and wanted others to get the chance to experience it also. On my way back out an idea was born......let's place a series! So, here it is.

Clues:
There is only one logbook for this series. I know sometimes it gets a little hectic when you are stamping into a lot of logbooks in one series. It is in the last box and I would love to hear your comments when you are done.
The first thing that you need to know about fairies is that some of them are very nice and some are not so nice. I will introduce you to some of both and give you some help in dealing with the not-so-nice variety.
From where you parked, head out on the blue blazed trail in an easterly direction. As you walk along you will come to a stone wall. Go through and STOP. Look to your left. Follow the wall until you come to a place where three trees have fallen across the wall. Go to the far side and look in the wall directly under the last fallen tree. There you will find Befind.
Befind is a special Celtic fairy. She attends the birth of all children and gives to them talents and makes predictions about their lives.
Go back to the blue blazed path you were on. Before heading on look to your right. Take a reading of 210 degrees and go 9 paces to a large rock. From this rock look to your right and see 2 logs in the shape of a "V" on the ground. Look in the crotch on the ground to find some Mistletoe.
If you hang Mistletoe over a cradle it will help to ward off the not-so-nice fairies and prevent them from replacing a baby with a changeling.
Now you may proceed . Continue on over some rocky terrain and cross a seasonal(?) stream. Then again cross another stream that has a double two planked bridge. From the end of the bridge count 7 paces and STOP. Look to your left and you will see a group of four trees. Go to them. Look in the roots of the tree farthest from the path to find Nicker.
Nicker, a Norse fairy, is one of the most dangerous fairies of all. He is a seducer that can appear in many guises including a white horse and handsome youth to name a few. He is commonly seen by the edge of water. This makes it easier to play beautiful music to lure his victims to doom. Most of his victims are women who drowned in the waters he was near.
Go back to the path, and from the same 7 paces from the bridge look now to your right at 135 degrees. There you will see an oak tree off of the path, just 16 steps away. Go to the oak and look in the
roots under some bark for a Four Leaf Clover.
If a Four Leaf Clover is plucked from the ground it can protect from fairy spells and if you lie still may make them invisible.
Go back to the blue blazed path. Start going uphill now along the streams (they are on your left side and do dry up at times, but you can still spot where they are). Keep an eye on the right for a "sandwich rock". When you see it, go to it and look behind the "meat" for the Blue Fairy.
The Blue Fairy is an angelic guiding spirit. Her color is always blue. She is very compassionate and will help to deliver us from evil and distress. She can even make your most heartfelt wishes come true, if you are of scrupulous personal honesty.
Look around you at the rocks. It looks quite like a fairy circle here. Go back down to the path away from this fairy circle and continue on. Quickly on your right you will see a large dead tree with a hollow in it. Go to the top of that tree which is lying on the ground. On the backside to the right of the crotch look for your Hats in another hollow.
When a person passes a fairy circle they should reverse their hat to confuse the fairies that want them to join in the fairy dance.
Once you are walking back on the path look to your left and notice a large boulder in the center of the stream that divides it into two separate ones. Continue going up until you come to a blue blaze tree growing on top of rocks. From here the large boulder that you just noticed should be at a reading of 300 degrees. Go to the left of this tree and look under the rocks to find Lauma.
Lauma was one of the most beautiful fairies of all legends. She had long, bright blonde hair and ocean blue eyes. She was well known for many years as a protector of the orphans and the poor. She eventually grew jealous of those who birthed children because she never could. She was then accused of being a baby snatcher.
Do you hear something? Continue uphill on the path going 13 paces. Look left to a rock with a split in it. Find the bells in the crevice that this split rock has.
Bells can ward off fairies from a certain area.
Please take time all along this wonderful place that you are at to truly see it and maybe even fall in love with it. The pools and waterfalls are really beautiful.
Once you are back on the path keep going until you crest the hill. At the top the blue blazed trail starts to serpentine. You will pass a short 2 foot stump on your left. Just past this stump you will see a row of boulders. Go behind them and look near the overhang where two of them meet. Under some rocks and earth lays Cupid.
Cupid was the grand master of the Erotes. He not only rules over the Erotes but presides over education as well. It is through love and learning that we achieve true understanding.
While sitting on the rock that Cupid came from, look to your left. Spy a 3 1/2 foot stump. Go to it to find your final image under a rock and some dirt. That of an Iron Horseshoe. This box contains the log book.
When an Iron Horseshoe is hung above a door it prevents a fairy from entering a home or causing mischief.
If you have brought the clues to Fairy of the Falls, which I hope you did, now would be a good time to go in search of it.
You can return to your car by backtracking down the hill. Please take time to enjoy the scenery now that you are not looking for anything else. I feel that this is a truly magical spot. I hope you enjoyed the journey.
Safe trails,
Flutterby & Fat Cat
