Directions: From 395 take exit 89 Route 14. Follow rte. 14 west for
about 10 miles to 97 north (Pudding Hill Rd). Look for the James V.
Spignesi Wildlife Management Area on your right.
Clues: Park in the big dirt lot, then pass through the green gate and
follow the main road down hill. Ignore all trails of to the sides and
walk all the way down to the river’s edge. Turn around and walk back
up the road 164 steps. Take the small path at 330º. Pass through a
stone wall and continue through the white pines. Soon you will come
to another stone wall. The Little River will be on the right down a
steep bank and a Nature Consevency sign is nailed to a large pine
straight ahead. Find the place where two fallen pines cross the wall.
Your treasure is hidden under one of the trunks, behind a door of
bark. Please use caution, there will be barbed wire behind you when
you find the box.
Continue on this path and you will find your self at the Indian
Spring at Rock Springs Wildlife Refuge. To return to your car,
backtrack the way you came. Hike should take less than one hour.
