Confirmed in place as of February 2004.

Clues for this box are pretty straight-forward. The terrain is easy. It should take about an hour to get in, stamp up, and get out.

"This area is affectionately dedicated to John L. Curran, native Rhode Islander, nationally-known pioneer in conservation, founder of the R.I. Fish & Game Association, true sportsman, ardent hunter, and enthusiastic fisherman who has given himself unstintingly to the welfare and happiness of his fellow citizens. -- Federated R.I. Sportsmen's Clubs, Inc., 1963."

Directions: Take exit 4 off Route 295 in Rhode Island. Head west on Plainfield Pike (Route 14). Take a left onto Comstock Parkway. Take a right onto Scituate Avenue. Take a left on Pippin Orchard Road. Take a right onto Laten Knight Road. Park where Laten Knight Road takes a dogleg to the left.

People come here to shoot things, so be sure to wear at least 200 square inches of orange on your person during hunting season.

From the turnout, follow the trail southwest past the "No Dumping" sign. Proceed downhill, ignoring any side trails, until you arrive at water. If you like, you can explore north along the shore or west along the dike, but if you want to find the letterbox, you'll have to go south.

From the fire ring at the east end of the dike, take a reading of 170 degrees. You should be looking at a boulder at the top of a short path. Go in that direction, keep right past the boulder and take another path at 190 degrees.

Soon you will be joined on your right by a stone friend. After a time your friend will pause to interact with another of its kind. You should leave them to their conversation. You will shortly come upon a depression to your right. Feel free to explore. Is it an old cellar hole? A quarry? What are all those old scraps of rusty metal?

Continue on the path to a power line cut. Follow the cut at 255 degrees. When you come to a brook, don't cross, but look for a path at 130 degrees. Follow that path up a small hill, past a jumble of boulders on your left. Pass through a stone wall. Soon you will see another reservoir on your right, and it won't be long before you find yourself in a clearing. From the fire ring, head out at 70 degrees to an opening in another stone wall.

Follow the south arm of the wall to find where tree kisses rock. The Big Ol' Sun is hiding under the rock. Uncover it and let it shine!

To return, just retrace your steps.
