I do not recommend finding this letterbox if it has presently rained. Please try to leave no human tracks behind.

This is the third of seven Letterboxes in the Narnia Series. Each titled to the corresponding book. They were my favorite as a child. Encourage READING!!

From the East:
Take 271 South to 82 West (Macedonia). Cross Cuyahoga River and take a left on to Riverview Rd. At the bottom of the hill you’ll turn Right into Brecksville Reservation (Chippewa Creek Dr.). Pass Plateau Picnic area on Left. Take the next Left on to Valley Parkway. The sign will say Ottawa Point, Stable, & Oak Grove. Go up the hill and you’ll pass the exit, then entrance to Oak Grove Picnic area. (You may have to park here if it is a holiday, or if no other parking is available.) On the Right after you pass the entrance to Oak Grove Picnic area there will be a little incove with 3 parking spaces and 2 picnic tables. Park here.

From the West:
Take 77 South to 82 East (Broadview Heights). Follow 82(it will turn into Chippewa Rd), you’ll cross over 21, continue until you go through a shopping area and take a Right into Brecksville Reservation (Chippewa Creek Dr.). Go passed the Nature Center. Take the 2nd Right on to Valley Parkway. Park here.

Walk past the 2nd picnic table & follow the path into the woods. Head South when you hit the bench. This is Buckeye Trail. It is 1300 miles long and runs from Lake Erie to Cincinnati. (For more info go to: buckeyetrail.org).

Keep following the blue dots & head straight when other trail options come up. You’ll soon arrive at a green sign for Deer Lick Cave. Go to the overlook and have a rest. About face, and take the NE trail (yes, you’ve tread here before). At the 3 way intersection take the path leading downward. You know your right when you go down 13 steps. Follow the main trail to Deer Lick Cave. Many frogs live here & scurry into the water when footsteps approach.

Now go back over the bridge and sit on the bench. Up the hill to your Left is the overlook you just peered down from. Immediate to your Left about 20 degrees is a huge rock & fallen tree crossing the creek. Cross over the tree & creek and follow the trail that goes straight up the hill. BE CAREFUL! It’s slippery whether dry or wet! Let the trees be your helping hand.

You will come to a trail heading Left or Right. Take the Left path & follow it curving around the edge of Deer Lick Cave. When you start walking on moss covered ground keep a watch out for a fork in the path. Two trees will be on your Left growing out of the side of the cliff. One has smooth bark and the other is dead & has darker bark with knots all over it. There will be a skinny maple tree directly across from these trees(on the Right).

Take the fork to the Right/South and peek over the edge. There is a path leading down to rocks & water. A dead tree lines the path to the Left. Carefully squat down & make your way down the path using the dead tree as a hand rail. At the bottom you’ll see a miniature waterfall & a stone tunnel that one could actually walk through.

Face the tunnel straight on. If you look to your Right at approx. 290 degrees you will see two big oak trees. Go to the smaller one closer to you. It has a root projected out & curled around that looks like an old man’s finger. It is snuggling The Dawn Treader & keeping her safe. Be sure to cover her well for this is a high traffic area.

To go back:
Follow the rocks down stream. Carefully climb down the big rocks and when you look up you will see a bridge down stream. Here a giant ledge will be projecting out & pointing to a path across the creek. Hop the stones & either go Right or Left on the path. Left goes back to Deer Lick Cave or Right leads you up stone stairs. If you choose the stairs, go all the way up, but do not follow the arrow. Head NE & take the 1st trail to the Right. Cross the road and follow the bike path to your car.
