Hyco Lake is a 3,750-acre cooling reservoir for Carolina Power and Light. The lake (and a 65-acre park with boating, camping, and swimming facilities) is located about 10 miles northwest of Roxboro, NC. For more information, you can call the Person-Caswell Lake Authority at 336-599-4343 or check http://hycolake.com/.

**This letterbox is on an island and is ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY WATER**

To get to the park and public access boat ramps, take NC Highway 57 northwest from Roxboro for about 10 miles. Highway 57 crosses the lake three times in rapid succession. Just after the second bridge, turn left on Kelley Brewer Road. The park entrance is off this road.

Letterbox Clues:
As you enter the main lake from the boat ramp and/or rec area, turn right and go under the bridge. Letterboxing sure is a gas isn't it? Continue in the same direction aiming straight for the big plant. When you get close to the big plant (and it may take awhile depending on your method of transportation), look for a very small uninhabited island on your left. You probably won't be able to distinguish it from the shoreline until you get close. This island is your destination - it's roughly a mile and a half from the bridge. Once you've come ashore, stand at the highest point on the island. The small hollow stump nearby is hiding what you seek.

A few precautions: Please be inconspicuous because people occasionally anchor and swim in this area. Also be aware that the water gets shallow close to the island (duh!!). There is no designated area to tie up a boat so you'll have to anchor or improvise. And of course the Leave No Trace ethics apply in the lake setting just as they would anywhere else.

Enjoy!!
