The Willimantic Foot Bridge was built in 1906. It is believed to be the only bridge in the United States that connects two state highways and also crosses all three forms of transportation (roadway, railway and riverway). Right now the foot bridge is getting some much needed renovation work. There is a plaque on the Main Street end that tells more of the story of this incredible structure.

Directions:
Driving West on Main Street in Willimantic take a left into the municipal parking lot. This will be a left hand turn at the first light after the Thread City Crossing (Frog Bridge) intersection. Drive into the lot and go left. Park against the fence.

Clues:
When you get out of your car, look west at the magnificent structure that connects two separate parts of town. This was such a vital way of getting from one part of town to another for so long. Walk towards the bridge heading towards its Main Street end.
You will see a set of stone steps running up alongside the bridge. It's between two brick buildings. Go up these steps. At the top you will see a plaque telling of the history of the bridge. I encourage you to take a walk across once the renovation work is done.
From the plaque head East on the sidewalk. You will cross the road that brought you to the municipal parking lot. You will then be walking next to a large yellow & brick building. At the end of te building you will see a set of stone stairs on the right. Go down them and walk to the final corner of the building that is at the parking lot.
Here is where you have to be as discrete as possible. There is a row of hedges here that meet up with the building. It is at the corner where the hedges meet the building that the letterbox is hidden. You will need to walk to this spot and drop something, tie your shoe, basically anything to give you an excuse to bend over. Once you bend over reach under the last hedge alongside the building to reach your prize.
PLEASE take this back to your car to stamp in. It is only a short walk there and back. Again, absolute discretion is imperative if this box is to remain for others to find. I am counting on your love of this pasttime to help this box survive.
When you replace the box, please make sure to push this under the hedge and back against the building as far as you can.
We hope you enjoyed the journey.
