The Nescopeck Butterfly

Nescopeck State Park lies between Mount Yeager and Nescopeck Mountain near where I-80 meets Route 309.

From I-80 head South on 309 and follow the sign to a left turn onto Honey Hole Road.
Honey Hole passes under I-80 and enters Nescopeck State Park. It’s approx 4.5 mi from I-80 to Lake Frances Road. Make a Right. Pass the Pond. Park Office is on the Right. You can get a Park map there or just Wing It.
Follow the road West past the Park Office to the Lot at Lake Frances and Park there.
There on the Eastern side of the Lake, to the North of the Parking Lot is the entrance to the Lake Trail(I).
Follow the Lake Trail around Lake Frances. When the trail turns South watch for sign To Nescopeck Trail (G). [If you turn East - you’ve gone too far.]
Take the Nescopeck Trail to the Hill Trail (H).
Head ESE on Hill Trail until it reconnects with the Nescopeck Trail again.
East on Nescopeck Trail approx. 1 mi. until trail enters a clearing with a Lake to the North.
Follow trail along Lake to a tree with 2 trunks at 72°.
Follow trail to sign at 100°
“To Woodland Way
To Creek .5 mi”
Continue 23p past the sign. In a pile of logs on the right side of the trail is the Nescopeck Butterfly. Look carefully it is camoflaged.

Quick Return Route
Back along Lake to Nescopeck Trail Head.
Continue WNW on Nescopeck Trail approx. 1/2 mi. to Lake Frances parking lot.

More Interesting Return
23p back to sign.
NE on Woodland Way(J).
Approx. 1.5 mi to Park Office.
Follow road West to Lake Frances parking lot.
