Although this letterbox is designed as a paddle by, it can also be reached by bike or foot.

Planted by M & P for the Gnarly River Women

THIS BOX HAS BEEN REPORTED MISSING 11/30/04

The Gnarlies are a group of women drawn together by our love of paddling the rivers of New Jersey. The group's activities change with our members' interests. We've had a website and a newsletter, we've been down the Salmon on duckies and the Colorado on rafts (it was those Colorado River guides who named us.) We've paddled tandem canoes and solo canoes but lately many of us prefer kayaks. Our numbers on the river on any given day are as few as two and as many as twenty, but we all try to get out on a river at least once a season. A few of us are into Letterboxing and hope to combine these two wonderful activities.

Easy Clues, usually easy paddle - wide river with a few riffles - take the wing dam down the middle.

On Friday morning, 7 Gnarlies in 6 solo kayaks and 1 solo canoe put in at Kingswood on the Delaware River. The 8 plus mile paddle down to Bull Island is usually a 3 to 4 hour trip depending on water level. On this day it took an hour and 40 minutes – the river was really HIGH.

CLUES

·Take out at the Bull Island boat launch - on the left, just past the foot bridge soon after the wing dam.

·Walk up the ramp along the access road to its crest.

·See the wide path on the right

·About 120 walking steps along this path brings you to a rotting log on the right.

·The letterbox is in the log covered with detritus.
