update 9/9/04-- This box is missing. I will try to replace it soon, most likely in a different place in the park! Sorry!

South Lake Park is located between 86th & 87th Streets about midway between Antioch and Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park. The parking lots are on the North end of the park-- to access them from 87th street go north on Robinson Street (if you tried to go South on Robinson you would actually find yourself in a Unitarian Church parking lot) and continue north one block to 86th street. Turn right (east) on 86th street and the parking lots will be on your right (south) a block ahead.

From either parking lot head to the paved path which goes around the lake. On the path, go east (left) over one bridge. The basketball courts will be on your left. Continue on a little bit and look for the weeping willow draped over a stone drainage area on your right. You can sit on the drainage thing and swing your legs a while, enjoying the lake view. Along the right side wall (if you are facing the lake), hidden under some dead foliage, is your prize. Please be sure to recover well!

This is a very popular neighborhood park, with ducks, geese, picnic-ers, fishermen, children, dog-walkers, and the like. The most challenging aspect of this letterbox will be stamping it without giving away its location! Bring your own stamp pad, enjoy the handcarved stamp, and have fun!
