This box is part of a series of letterboxes highlighting some of the unique features of various city parks in Urbana. An Urbana Park District guide might be helpful (or visit their website at www.prairienet.org/upd). Please bring your own inkpad and pen.

Start at the plaque honoring the "Father of the Illinois State Park System," for whom this park is named. While you're there, read about this great man who was instrumental in establishing the Illinois State Park System and served as commissioner of the Urbana Park District and president of the Illinois Association of Park Districts.

From the plaque head north along the sidewalk. To the west is a wooden platform. Look under the northeast corner nearest the maple tree to find the letterbox.
