Happy Rock Park Letterbox.

From 435 North of the Muddy MO travel West on HWY 152 to M1, approx 2 miles. Turn South and travel to 72nd street, approx 1.5 miles. Travel back East on 72nd (Between WalMart and HyVee) to Antioch Rd, approx 1 mile. At Stop sign turn North, and travel approx 1 mile to the NORTH entrance of Happy Rock Park. There are only two entrances, pass the South. Turn East into the park and park in the lot facing North toward the woods just past the Playground that is on South of the road, approx 200 yards.

I know these directions are tedious... just go to the link of Gladstone parks and whip out a map.

There is a large blue sign that explains all the park rules...again, facing to the North, and just East of the Playground.

Directly behind the sign and facing North is an obvious trail over many roots. Climb that trail about 150 feet and you will find a clearing with a blue picnic table. Continue through the clearing exactly in the same path as the trail you climbed and you will find a rocky trail that leads to another clearing that is about 200 feet farther up the hill. Your treasure is directly ahead of you under the fallen log under a pile of small stones snuggled in the crotch of a limb.

A couple letterboxers wrote me about the trail. There are roots across the trail, and they said it was steep. I have bad knees and seem to get up there without any trouble, but I use a walking stick when coming back down. Be especially careful this autumn, the leaves cover the trail. It is easy to follow, but hazards are hidden.

Have a great visit to Gladstone. To make your trip more memorable there is a Movie Theater at 152 and N Brighton, and A Margaritas Restaraunt at 72nd and N Oak. If you are from out of town I would not miss the Steamboat Arabia Museum at the River Market, the best historical exhibit I believe I have ever seen. And, if you are on a letterbox hunt, go to O'Malleys Irish Pub in Weston and also find the letterboxes in Lewis and Clark Park and Fort Leavenworth. We also left one at Pat's Steakhouse, just South of Lewis and Clark State Park. Ask for Pat, she is the keeper of the letterbox.

This Happy Rock letterbox may be missing.
