Both boxes are in great shape. 8-5-06

Welcome to Pennsylvania as it was in 1753.
Where you will find hemlocks overlooking red oak, birch and maple trees.

Your journey begins in a natural undisturbed state
where the processes of growth and death are part of the hemlock's fate.

Pennsylvania's official tree is found here in the Tuscarora
where 400 year old trees tower over the fauna and flora.

On the road named after the majestic state tree,
travel 4 miles from Route 274 and a parking lot you will see.

The towering trees will shade you from the hot sun.
A wood chipped path downhill will lead you to a bridge over Patterson Run.

Just after the bridge turn left as you go.
Re-cross the stream that you will increasingly get to know.

The trail is rocky on this side and even slippery when wet.
Walking shoes or even boots may be your best bet.

The creek runs swift, cold and clear,
and where deep, small native brook trout appear.

Admire the soldiers that still stand and those that lay dead.
Enjoy your journey as your quarry lies ahead.

Bear right again across Patterson Run.
You will find this path less rocky, but just as much fun.

Turn right on the trail named like the edge of a wheel.
The paces you go, as many winks in a nap you would steal.

To the right of your foot, under the path's edge
lies your bounty, under the rock's ledge.

Congratulations on the prize you found.
Continue on the trail until you see familiar ground.

***BONUS BOX***
Back near the junction of Hemlock Road and Route 274
you can park your car and walk again on the forest floor.

This time take the Tunnel Trail across the dirt road from the parking area. It's a 40 minute round trip hike that culminates in hysteria.

OK, so it may not end in hysteria, but we dare you to come up with a rhyme to the word "area".

Follow the trail where men toiled so the iron horse could run. This elevated bed leads you to a place where years of men's work is still not done.

From the center of the fence take 21 paces heading 142 degrees. Turn to 90 degrees and step off 9 more paces. Finish up with 37 paces heading 350 degrees. This should bring you in the vicinity of an overhanging stone on the hillside under which is concealed the tunnel stamp box.

Best of luck.
We appreciate emails and updates on the condition of the boxes.
Thanks.
