The Bogtrotters
Our box is open for summer!

This letterbox was put together by four Cape Cod kids,-"bog trotters" (the nickname you're given when your born and raised on Cape Cod where Cranberry harvesting has been a way of life for years). Our particular letterbox will take you through a very historic area of Yarmouthport, known as the Captain's Mile. As a matter of fact, two of us live in the house of perhaps the most famous sea captain that the Cape has produced, - Captain Asa Eldridge. He was Captain of the famed Red Jacket Clippership whose record still stands to this day. The other two of us live in his brother's house, - Captain John Eldridge, - the oldest of three brothers. (John, Asa and Oliver)
If you are travelling to the Cape, take Sagamore or Bourne Bridge to Route 6 (the mid-Cape highway). If time permits, take any of the exits off Route 6 to Route 6A. Route 6A is also know as the Old Kings Highway. Hundreds of years ago, the British Red Coats use to march up and down this road under the orders of King George III. Route 6A is believed by many to be the prettiest highway in our country. All along this stretch are historic homes, many of them on the National Register of Historic Homes, once lived in by settlers and famous Sea Captains. If you don't take Route 6A early on, you must take Exit 7 to Route 6A. When you come off the ramp, stay right onto Willow Street. Take to the end to Route 6A (which pretty much parallels Route 6). When you get to the end of Willow St.(the Christmas Tree Shops to your left and the Liberty Hill Inn to your right), take a right onto 6A and then an immediate left onto Wharf Lane. Follow the road until you come to a fork, stay going straight. You will come upon a very strange growing tree to your right. At that point, keep your eye out for a dirt road on the right named Water St. Turn there. Please keep in mind that we are bringing you through a residential area, please drive slowly. Many locals walk, jog and play on these backroads because they are so beautiful.

You will come upon a small parking area that opens up to the mouth of Barnstable Harbor. Across the way, you can see the tip of Sandy Neck,- it's beautiful sand dunes and lighthouse. Before you will be an area to dock your small boats and skiffs. Count the number of metal docking bars and divide that number by how many Eldridge brothers there were. With the last number you had, count the number of trees heading towards the water on the left side of the parking area. And there behind the last one you will find our letterbox.

We know this is a real easy one, but hey!, we're just kids! Please be sure to be discreet and put back the box as you found it. Many people come to enjoy the scenery here, - you might even see artists with their easels trying to capture the beauty. Enjoy!
