NOTE FROM CALLI-K 03/07/2011: With 4Dtoes’ blessing I adopted this box today and will be taking care of maintenance when necessary. Please contact me if you visit and find that it needs any care.

The original clues as posted in 2004 are as follows (edited slightly because of changes in the terrain in 2015):

ATTENTION!
Cougars have recently been seen in the area. If you see a Cougar, stand tall, make noise and don't bend over or crouch.

DIRECTIONS:
Watch for La Pine State Park signs on Hwy. 97 just north of La Pine. Follow signs to La Pine State Park (Recreation Area) and the follow signs to Big Tree.

TO BRING:
Suggest bringing brown & green ink colors.

CLUES:
Park in the parking lot and stand in front of the BIG TREE sign. Turn around and notice two gaps in the fence across the parking lot. Go to the one on the left. It's marked by a sign post "Big Pine." You guessed it! ... we're taking the longer less traveled way in! Things to watch for ... a fallen giant decomposed across the trail ... enter a thicker forest...step over a fallen tree...ditto...an old dirt road... burned out stumps ... trail turns left and gets curvy. The trail will take a sharp left with a sign post "Big Tree." The trail will cross another old dirt road. Continue along the trail and enjoy the beautiful views including the river, Mt. Bachelor and the Three Sisters. Watch and listen for the Memory Chimes (the memory chimes are gone now - instead look for a clearing from which you can see two very nice homes across the river, both overlooking the river). From the clearing, look around for a burned stump with an odd shape. Big Tree is waiting at the bottom tucked under pine needles. Continue on the trail down the hill to see the Big Tree! Oh and enjoy the view! Hope you had fun! The Fleshmans (4Dtoes).

Please rehide better than you found it and cover it with a good layer of pine needles as this box will be under snow for the winter. Thanks!
