The Thumb People
Driving Directions:
From the Clock Tower in Sharon, CT at the junction of route 41 /343, Go North on 41, 0.8 miles to Calkinstown Road on the right. Take Calkinstown 1.7 miles to West Cornwall Road (it bears right) go 1.2 miles to Sharon Mountain Housatonic State Forest on the left. (The road is a little rough at points, and there is a parking lot in the begining of the road if you would rather walk) but most cars drive up the dirt road (notice at 0.8 miles the white blaze trail that crosses you with stone steps up to the right, and stone steps to the left.) This is the trail you will take, but park at 0.9 miles (at 0.8 Miles after the trail, the road bears left-bear left)
at 0.9 there is a grassy parking lot on the right. Park Here.
Clues: Walk back to the white blaze trail (AT), take the trail south, up the hill (count the logs you cross, you will need this figure to find the box)(There are a total of 13 logs across the trail as of Jan 12,07 or 8 white blazes) at the 13th log, count 36 steps to a LARGE boulder on the right side of the trail. Below the west side of this boulder you will find the THUMB PEOPLE LETTERBOX! (I should add that there is a DEP-seedling letterbox series #4 on this same section of the AT trail- Northward from the point the AT crosses the dirt road...)
