** Seems the otter took another trip, we will try to replace this box on our next trip to Vermont. until then, enjoy the view of the falls and check out the neat shops in the area.

Yes, we know this to be a popular spot, but it is also a good vantage point for the falls. Please remember to hide this box WELL. Make sure it is not visible from all angles before you leave the area.
Please let us know if there are any problems with the box.

The Otter Creek Falls letterbox is located in the heart of a lovely college town on Route 7. Go to Main Street, Middlebury, and park where a space can be found (sometimes it's VERY tough!).

Terrain: Easy stroll, ending in a very short scramble down a hill.
Time: Less than a half an hour from the Frog Hollow District.

(This is a replacement box for another otter who swam away down the creek. It's so very hard to keep an otter's attention!)

Stroll down an active and interesting downtown to Mill Street. It's also called the Frog Hollow District for good reason, to be seen. Turn down Mill Street, downhill. On the right will be Frog Hollow Alley - take a look at the little shops and, at the end of the short alley, get a close-up view of the top of the Otter Creek Falls.
When you're ready, go back to Mill Street and continue down hill to the next right turn at the Frog Hollow Mill, which now houses the Storm Cafe, Middlebury Mountaineer and Phelps Engineering. Turn right. You'll see in front of you the five-foot Marble Works Memorial Bridge stone with a plaque on it and the footbridge that goes over Otter Creek.
Walk over the footbridge to find a white marble block on the grass on the right. Sit on the block, facing the bridge, and notice the dirt path going off to your left (East). Walk that way, and 48 steps later you'll find a big marble slab with big white words on it. Enjoy the view!
Go around to the back of the slab and look under its left side for a (hopefully well-stacked) pile of marble concealing the home of a happy otter splashing in the creek. When you're done, replace it and the marble pieces well, for this is a popular location!
This is a second replacement box - so be discreet and re-hide well!
When you are done, retrace your steps back to the white block. You can go right, continuing up the path to see the picnic area. Can you see Salzburg on the left? Walking through the picnic area, you'll see a sign about Ancient Paths. Walking East from there will take you back to Main Street by a very neat used book store. Have fun!
Nice View! If the box isn't here - try looking under the marble benches on the top by the parking lot.
