Distance: A very short, very windy and easy walk from the parking lot.
Bring: Camera, jacket, and letterboxing stuff.
What you will see: The Golden Gate bridge as viewed from above in the Headlands area of Marin County.
***Note 1: My original box (09/08/04) dissapeared, so I replanted 2 new ones on 09/04/05. These are at the same location but in different spots.
***********************************************************Note 2: Darn, now these 2 boxes are both missing too. I just did a recent check after hearing from someone. Sorry. I believe the rangers in this area have caught on and use this website for evil and they are pulling all of the boxes. They don't realize that we are trying to share these beautiful areas with people. Sorry!! You should still go here because the views are not to be missed.
***********************************************************
Route:
From San Francisco and South: Travel north over the Golden Gate Bridge and exit at the Alexander Ave. exit and loop left under the fwy. See below for rest of instructions.
From North of GG Bridge: Take Hwy 101 south to the last possible exit before the bridge (should see the bridge), it's called the Sausalito Exit. Turn left at the stop sign. See below for rest of instructions.
Turn right onto Conzelman Rd. and drive up the hill until you see the first dirt parking lot on your left. Park there and start walking on the lower path on the right.
Soon you will see a long wall of bricks to your right. Face the wall and look at the far right side of it where the wall meets a bush. It is in that bush (top of the wall level) and it is slightly visible, if you are looking right into it. Please push it way back in there again when you are done and try to make it as invisible as possible.
Continue on your path, still staying on the lower path. You will come to some cement staircases going up. Sit on the bottom step of the second staircase. Look to your left. You will see a rusty metal thing. The box is magnetized to the underside of it so reach your hand under it and you should find it with no problem. Please don't stamp in right there though. Also, when replacing, make sure you can't see it but don't push it too far back either.
Now go to the top and enjoy the view!!!
Take the upper path back and enjoy the views of Alcatraz, Angel Island and San Francisco from here!
When you are done, you should continue your drive up the hill and stop at the other view points (especially the top ones). The Hawk Hill box is up that way. If you have a lot of time, take a scenic drive and just keep traveling up, over and around the mountain.
Enjoy!
