Adopted 3/18/2006. This box was originally placed by 2PAW, who has since moved too far away to maintain it. She graciously allowed us to adopt her orphan when we found it in need of much repair. Stamp, location and clues are all original to 2PAW. However, note that there are potentially 4 other boxes in the park.
Lake Anna State Park
There are also 3 other boxes in this park so be sure to look them up.
Directions to Lake Anna State Park, Spotsylvania, Virginia - I-95 to exit 118 (Thornburg) head west. You will be on Rt. 606 which will turn into Rt. 208 (Courthouse Rd.) at the Snell stoplight. Pay careful attention to the Rt. 208 signs - there is a left hand turn that you must make or you will end up in the middle of nowhere. Follow the signs to the State Park. At Rt. 601 (Lawyers Rd.) turn right. The State Park will be on your right. Make sure you stop to get the map of the park and trails.
Park in the Trail Head Parking area and look for the start of the Turkey Run Trail.
"The Ant's Tower"
About 30 minutes round trip.
Follow the Turkey Run trail passing along the way, Smokey the Bear, Cedar Run trail, and Big Woods trail. Look for the sign in the middle of the trail saying "Hikers Only" to stay on Turkey Run trail.
Now that you have followed Turkey Run trail almost to the very end you will come to and old home site. Do you see the old fire place standing alone? The box is behind the fire place under some rocks. Warning! I saw several black snakes in the area! All of them were just king snakes, but they can still make you JUMP! ;-0
Now go visit the lake just down the way. There is a great fishing spot down there! Have fun!
