MISSING as of 19 May 2005

The Beus Pond Letterbox is not difficult to find, but you might want to bring a pair of gloves, as you'll need to reach under a dead tree. There might be creepy-crawlies...
You also ought to bring something to feed the ducks, the geese, and the swan. The swan's name is Harpo.

* nearly a drive-by
* hand-carved stamp
* leashed-pet friendly
* kid-friendly
* handicapped accessible (someone in a wheelchair or on crutches would need someone else to retrieve and re-hide the box)

You might want to bring a thermos of coffee or tea or whatever and maybe even your lawn chairs. You might as well sit comfortably while you feed the birds and watch the pond. It's best in the morning, especially around sunup.

1. From Harrison Blvd. in Ogden, turn E onto 42nd St.
2. Go .6 mi E, and turn E into the Beus Pond parking lot.
3. From the parking lot, walk SE along the paved path, past the pavilion on your left. The pond should be on your right.
4. Pass the small dock on your right, and continue along the paved path, past 2 groups of large rocks along the left side.
5. As the path curves westerly, continue to the S end of the pond. You will pass 2 barbecue/picnic areas on your left, off the path.
6. Just past the second barbecue/picnic area, stop at the long, white, fallen-down dead tree just off the path on your left. It should be pointing away from you. (A bridge will be visible ahead of you along the path. If you've crossed the bridge, go back.)
7. There are actually 2 stumps where the tree was uprooted: a short thick one with a jaggedy end pointing down a little slope towards the path, and the long graceful one mentioned in #6, which is arcing away from you. Between the two stumps is a small hollow where the roots used to be.
8. Go up along the far side of the short stump until you can see into the hollow. The box is under the base of the long dead tree, behind a gray rock, which is hidden behind a long piece of bark.
9. As this is right along the trail, you might want to take the box into the barbecue/picnic area to check it out. Be discreet, please.
10. Please re-hide carefully when no-one's watching.
11. Let us know if there are any problems.
12. Go feed the birds.
