Jabish Brook Conservation Area Letterbox

***Found in good condition on 8/1/10 by The L Troop***

Belchertown, MA (Hampshire County)

Location: Off US 202 between Belchertown and Pelham

Date Placed: 9/12/04, by The L Troop

Time: 30-40 minutes round trip

Difficulty: Easy

Directions to Starting Location: From the intersection of MA 9 and US 202 in Belchertown, head north on US 202 2.1 miles to the parking area on the right. This point can also be reached by going south from the flashing light on US 202 in Pelham. There is a sign noting “Jabish Brook Conservation Area”.

Clues: Walk in on the wide trail, and soon take a left turn. The trail is marked with a blue blaze that has a yellow diamond in the center. There is wooden map box on the left side of the trail, but it was empty at the time of placement. Cross over Jabish Brook, and bear left at the fork in the trail. There will be a shack and fire pit on the right. Cross a second bridge over a vernal stream. The trail starts climbing a bit, and crosses a third bridge over another vernal stream. The trail will continue curving around to the right. When you reach the fourth bridge, stop. Turn around and take 15 paces back along the trail. Through two birch trees that are on the side of the trail, look to you right at the large tree about 20-30 yards away. Take 10 paces towards that tree, and stop on a flat, mossy rock. The letterbox is under the far side of this rock.

Continue walking, over the bridge ,and you will reach the fork at the first bridge in about 10 minutes.
