I have taken this box home for maintenance it will be back soon.

Cold Spring School Conservation Area Letterbox

Belchertown, MA (Hampshire County)

Location: Cold Spring School Conservation Area, Belchertown

Date originally placed: 9/19/04, by The L Troop
Date Placed in current location 8/1/10 by The L Troop

Time: About 10 minutes round trip.

Difficulty: Easy

***NOTE***

The "powers that be" changed the trails a bit in the last couple of years, so the box has be placed in a location
that should be "easy", and not near poison ivy. The clues
below are current as of August 2010.

*************

Directions to Starting Location: From the intersection of MA 181 and US 202 in Belchertown, head south on MA 181 .3 miles and take a left into the Cold Spring School (just before the fork in the road). Park in the visitors lot. We recommend that you search for this box after school hours.

Clues: Walk around the right side of the school past the playground, and across the field to the sign denoting the conservation area at the far side. Enter the woods, and take a left on the trail marked with dark blue blazes. Note the numbers and descriptions on the trees as you walk, some of this info may be useful :) The trail turns right at a park bench, and continue in a clockwise loop. Cross a bog bridge.

When you get to a fork in the trail, stop. Add the numbers
the correspond to the Black Oak, the Paper Birch, and the American Elm. Walk this many paces along the left fork. At
this point, there should be a moss-covered rock a few feet to your left. The box is hidden behind this rock, hopefully
under a second, smaller rock.

The trail meets the other fork in a few paces...take a left
and you will be back at the field shortly.
