Back in commission with a wonderful stamp by Celtic Lions!!!!

Seawolf Park is the home of the USS Cavalla (WWII submarine), USS Stewart (destroyer escort), and a fishing pier. The park was built on an immigration station on the east end of Pelican Island. The USS Cavalla was a Gato class fleet sub, built in 1943. On her maiden patrol, she sank the 30,000 ton aircraft carrier Shokaku, earning the Presidential Unit Citation. She was converted to an SSK (hunter/killer) during the Cold War and then eventually brought to Seawolf Park in Galveston, TX. Tours or fishing are allowed for a fee.

To get to Seawolf Park: Take I-45 south to Galveston Island. Exit Harborside or continue on I-45 (becomes Broadway), and take a left on 51st Street. Go over the drawbridge to Pelican Island, and past the Texas A & M Galveston campus. Continue to the end of the island. Parking is $5.

Tour the USS Cavalla, see the USS Stewart, check out the SS Selma, fish, picnic, watch the harbor. The park is across from the Coast Guard station, the Boliver Ferry landing, the Tall Ship Elissa, and the cruise terminal.

When you are ready to look for the Cavalla microbox, go to the side of the parking lot opposite the USS Cavalla. Look for the entrance with the historical marker for the Galveston Quarantine Station. Read the marker and find the year the station merged with federal operations. Note the last half of this date. Facing the historical marker (east), walk to your left the number of paces equal to the last half of the date noted. Turn right and go to the oleander in front of you. The box is in a hollow brick at its base. Please be discreet, and return the microbox to the brick as you found it, making sure that it is sealed tightly. Please email me and let me know the status of this box.
